What’s going on at the LAT these days?

Last week, the Divisional Court decision in Shuttleworth v SLASTO and Peel Mutual highlighted only the latest issues with respect to problems with the Automobile Accident Benefits Service at the Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT).

Applicant is CAT impaired with Class 4 Marked Impairment – MM and Optimum

MM was injured in a car accident on April 25, 2014 and sought accident benefits from Optimum payable under the Schedule but when the parties were unable to resolve their disputes through mediation MM applied for arbitration at the FSCO.

Road safety gets $22M boost from Toronto city council

City council approved an additional $22 million for road safety measures Wednesday evening, including $13 million to “improve and accelerate” the implementation of the Vision Zero strategy aimed at reducing traffic crashes and deaths on Toronto’s streets.

Drug makers in Canada disclose doctor payments as transparency debate heats up

Ten of Canada’s largest pharmaceutical companies together made nearly $75-million in payments to doctors and health-care organizations last year, according to a voluntary disclosure effort that comes as two provinces prepare to force more transparency on the drug industry.

This wearable medical device could help people with paralysis move again

Howard Rocket was injured after falling on his neck while playing touch football back in 1995. “I hit my head, the back of my neck and I had a Basilar stroke about three weeks later. My entire life changed,” said Rocket, “I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t see, I couldn’t move.”

Concussion: An officer’s story

It was a typical day on the job for Kaleigh Friday, a Hamilton police officer.

That is, until she was rear-ended in her police cruiser. Another vehicle ran in to Kaleigh’s while she was stopped. Thankfully, she escaped the incident without any life-threatening injuries. Still, she took a trip to the local emergency department to get checked over.
