The recession may be over, but food bank use is still climbing in Canada
The number reflects several currents in the economy, from disability and social assistance payments that have not kept pace with inflation to the prevalence of lower-wage work, a lack of affordable housing and the delayed effects of the recession.

A hard time for tort insurers

The unwelcome revised definition of ‘incurred’ in the Ontario statutory accident benefit schedule (SABS), combined with a recent court decision concluding that tort defendants will only get credit for directly overlapping benefit entitlement, will result in recoverable tort damage awards well above policy limits and where the assigned accident benefit rights have only marginal value.
